Emma Callander is an award winning theatre director, producer and facilitator. She is dedicated to creating experiences that challenge inequality.
As Co-Artistic Director of Theatre Uncut she commissions and directs politically responsive work for both live and digital audiences. Emma is also Associate Artist at the Traverse Theatre in Edinburgh.
Her work has won the Amnesty International’s Freedom of Expression award, three Scotsman Fringe First awards, a Herald Angel award and the Spirit of the Fringe.
Emma trained on the Regional Theatre Young Directors Scheme 2009/10 with the National Theatre Scotland, assisting Vicky Featherstone and John Tiffany and was a finalist for the JMK award in 2008. She was Associate Director at the the Traverse Theatre 2013-15 and a Leverhulme Scholar at the Bristol Old Vic 2018-19.
She has worked with the Prince’s Trust to facilitate young performers to create their own work, led workshops for the Bristol Old Vic Young Company and is a regular guest director at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School.
Emma also hosts public talks, most recently at the Speakers Corner stage at Boomtown Fair and the Information stage at the Downs festival including live Q&A’s with Ken Loach, Elizabeth Uviebinené and Darren McGarvey.
